Niagara Falls Marathon Set to Return October 23

  • Thousands of participants and supporters will return for first race event since 2019
  • Notice of revised route map and road closures scheduled along Niagara Parkway

Niagara Falls, ON – With the support of the City of Niagara Falls and the Town of Fort Erie, Niagara Parks is set to host the Niagara Falls Marathon on Sunday, October 23. Voted one of the most scenic marathons in Canada, the Niagara Parkway will once again serve as the primary race route, with over 2,500 participants currently registered to compete in the highly anticipated Boston Marathon qualifier event.

Event organizers have noted one key change to the 2022 route map: due to current border restrictions, both the start and finish line will now take place at the Toronto Power Station, in Niagara Falls, Ontario. This location not only provides a breathtaking backdrop near the brink of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, but it also creates a single central hub for participants, supporters and volunteers on race day.

Scheduled Road Closures: Sunday, October 23

  • The Niagara Parkway will be closed from Thompson Road, Fort Erie, to Upper Rapids Boulevard, Niagara Falls, beginning at 5 a.m., and re-opened as participants pass by each adjoining intersection. Access to local residences will be provided with the assistance of Niagara Parks Police and race marshals.
  • Northbound lanes of the Niagara Parkway from Upper Rapids Boulevard to Fraser Hill, Niagara Falls, will be closed from 5 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m.; while Southbound lanes will remain open, to allow opposing traffic.

Impact on Attractions, Parking and Transportation

  • All vehicular access to Dufferin Islands, including access to the public washrooms, will be closed for the day to service the event.
  • Access to Rapidsview Parking (Lot C) will be closed for the day to service the event, however, access to the Table Rock Visitor Centre and bus management, Falls Parking (Lot A) and Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse Parking (Lot B) will all remain open.

The Northbound WEGO bus pickup lane, located opposite the Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse will not be available during the event, however, there will be no impact to any other WEGO bus routes throughout the destination.
